A few other American brands, like Gemeinhardt and Conn, made professional flutes, but they were of a lower quality and were not sought after. This was before the Japanese brands came along, and after the old French companies like Louis Lot went out of business.
Back in the 60's and 70's, there were three different flute brands for professionals to choose from: Powell, Haynes, and Armstrong. Armstrong used to be known as a maker of the highest level of professional flutes.
